AntiVirus

When combined with antispyware and a host based firewall an antivirus product is part of the final defense of a computer system. Viruses can be received over email, downloaded from web sites and even recovered from backups, it is impossible to know when one will be encountered. It is important that every computer run an automatically updating antivirus software package to protect the operating system and the data contained therein, so important that UCSF policy requires that computers connected to or participating in the UCSF network have current antivirus software installed and running.

Sophos Antivirus

To assist in supporting the campus community antivirus needs OAAIS Enterprise Information Security makes the popular Sophos software client available for use by UCSF faculty, staff, students and associates. Sophos automatically updates both the client software and virus definition files from servers on the UCSF campus, it automatically scans local hard disks and monitors file access to detect the telltale signs of the presence of a virus and will warn the user and block access to the file until it can be cleaned.

Sophos can be downloaded from the OAAIS Software site.
