Host Firewall
What is a Host Based Firewall?
A host based firewall is security oriented software that installs on individual workstations, servers, and laptops. Host based firewalls provide the ability to control network traffic through the enforcement of policies that govern permissions for network traffic to be allowed into and out of the computer. UCSF distributes Sygate Enterprise Firewall which is software that, once installed, provides a centrally controlled, customizable firewall providing a layer in the overall scheme of computer protection.
Sygate Enterprise Firewall Distribution at UCSF
UCSF OAAIS/Enterprise Information Security (EIS) distributes the Sygate Enterprise Firewall in two forms, departmental and single user.
Departments may, on request, receive a customized build of Sygate and be delegated administrative control in the management console over their workstations and servers running Sygate. If you would like to discuss the rollout of Sygate for your department, please go to OAAIS Help Page and open a Remedy ticket with a request for a consult from EIS.
Single users may download a “one size fits all” Sygate which is configured from the central console with settings that will provide protection from internet worms yet allow the user to function normally in most cases. For more details about the configuration of the Single User form of Sygate and where it is designed to work please see the Sygate Frequently Asked Questions. To download the Single User Sygate, please visit our Sygate Download Page.
